The Growers Guide to Cannabis -

Hello Max – thanks for the questions!

OK, I will answer this the best I can!

First how big are you growing these plants?
– I would say if they are less than 60cm when finished the Fero4G 180 would cover two-three plants well in about a 60cm by 60cm area and the Fero 4G 360 5 plants in just less than a square meter (0.8m x 0.8m) will give all the plants some well fat buds.

I would start keeping the light about 50 cm away from a mature plant as I’m experiencing problems when I try and put them a little closer. These fero leds are deceptive when you compare the 360 4g to a 250 watt sodium the sodium appears much brighter but, looks are deceptive – handle these 4G leds with respect: they are powerful.

I’ve found that they can work well both in veg and flower. For seedlings, hang the light 1m plus above – there will still be no signs of stretching with the 360 – its a bit like trying to drive a 2″ nail with a 5kilo sledge hammer :) Probably best to stick with your CFLs for seedling stage.

Sounds to me that you would be marginally better off with the 360 4G. It will give you the option of growing your plants larger, or increasing the number of plants to 5 in the future. I know it seems a lot of money when you compare it to a 250 watt led but you are getting a quality unit which is going to last grow after grow (and no I don’t work for Feroled!) Also although the trial run isn’t finished yet, I know that if I were offered the choice right now, that’s the option I would go for.

Now as far as growing in a sealed area that’s a matter of choice
personally at the moment I use two walls, one side open and a large canvas frame over the front with the top meter of the grow area open on two sides with a 18inch occillating fan and a 125mm extractor on minimum taking air from the whole room. For me this works well and I’m able to stabalize my temps at 23ºc.
It is going to depend on each individual room

To get the most out of a 360 4G I would in a perfect world get myself a 80cm x 80cm grow tent with a 100m extractor again on a min setting (assuming that it is thermostatically controlled): this would work great and give you loads.

If you take the plunge and go for it…..and if you want….. post what you are up to on the blog and I will try give you a hand from making some of the mistakes I’ve made and pass on some of the growing tips I have learnt to help you get a bumper crop! Some time soon I’m going to write a how to grow with LEDs but I’m still learning at the moment!
